At the heart of our Inclusion Strategy is a clear and ambitious commitment: to provide an inclusive, high-quality education for all children, regardless of their background, starting point, or any barriers they may face in learning. We believe that every child has the right to achieve, belong, and thrive within our school community. While we recognise the importance of supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who are disadvantaged, we also think beyond these typical barriers. Our approach is centred on getting to know children as individual young people, understanding their unique strengths, needs, interests, aspirations, and circumstances. By doing so, we ensure that every child receives the support, challenge, and opportunities they need to be successful.
Our ultimate objective is to create a school where all pupils feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. We strive to remove barriers to participation and learning, develop independence and resilience, and ensure that every child is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for their future education and life beyond school.
Our Inclusion Strategy outlines how resources, staffing, training, culture, and ethos work together to achieve this vision. High-quality teaching remains the foundation of our provision, with staff adapting learning to meet the diverse needs of pupils. We invest in targeted interventions, specialist resources, and appropriate staffing structures to provide timely support where it is needed most. Ongoing professional development ensures that all adults understand inclusive practices and are equipped to meet an increasingly diverse range of needs. Alongside this, we actively promote a culture of acceptance, belonging, and high aspiration, where differences are celebrated and inclusion is viewed as everyone's responsibility.
Our strategy reflects and promotes the seven principles of inclusion. We ensure equity through personalised support and access to learning; foster belonging by creating a welcoming and nurturing environment; encourage participation through pupil voice and meaningful engagement; celebrate diversity across our curriculum and wider school life; maintain high aspirations for all learners; promote collaboration between staff, families, pupils, and external partners; and commit to continuous improvement through reflection, monitoring, and evaluation of our practice.
Families are at the core of our Inclusion Strategy. We recognise that strong, trusting relationships with children and their families are fundamental to achieving positive outcomes. Parents and carers are valued as key partners in understanding a child's needs and shaping the support they receive. Through regular communication, consultation, reviews, workshops, and shared decision-making, families play an active role in the development and implementation of our inclusive practices
We also recognise the importance of collaboration beyond school. The strategy is strengthened through partnerships with external agencies, specialist services, and professionals who bring valuable expertise and guidance. We actively utilise the knowledge, experience, and support available within the Wigan community and beyond to ensure that children and families can access the right help at the right time.
Together, through a shared commitment to inclusion, we will create a learning environment where every child is known, understood, supported, and inspired to succeed.
Please contact the school office if you would like to book a tour of the school with the Headteacher.
